Guy’s and St Thomas’ is one of the largest hospital trusts in the country, with a staff of almost 15,300, a turnover of over £1.4 billion and 2.3 million  patient contacts a year.  The Trust comprises two of London’s oldest and best known teaching hospitals.

As well as playing an active role in the South East London Sustainability and Transformation Partnership, the Trust is also part of King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), a pioneering collaboration between one of the world’s leading research-led universities and three of London’s NHS Foundation Trusts.  The Trust also has a strategic ambition to be a system leader and have been accredited by NHS Improvement as one of four NHS Foundation Trusts approved to work in partnership with other organisations to form a Group. 

Reporting into the Director of Finance, this high profile and critical role will lead on ensuring the total income (clinical, research, educational and commercial) is planned, negotiated and contracted for and then billed and reported to the highest professional standards.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • You will have the lead contracting responsibility for all clinical activity commissioned by NHSE, clinical commissioning groups and local authorities.
  • In collaboration with Operations and Health Informatics, the post holder will be responsible for the further development of the contracting strategy and ensuring directorates’ plans reflect the agreed contracts.
  • You will be expected to influence Department of Health/ NHS England/ NHS Improvement policy on contract developments and to keep abreast and influence proposed funding changes.

This role is a high profile and influential position which has oversight of the entirety of the income of the organisation.  You will be a professionally qualified accountant with significant experience of income and contracting in an NHS Trust.  You must be robust individual who can demonstrate excellent communication and leadership skills, complemented by demonstrable experience of leading on complex negotiations.  In addition, you should have a proven track record of leading and effectively managing complex organisational change.
