Guy’s and St Thomas’ is one of the largest hospital trusts in the country, with a staff of almost 15,300, a turnover of over £1.4 billion and 2.3 million  patient contacts a year.  The Trust comprises two of London’s oldest and best known teaching hospitals.

As well as playing an active role in the South East London Sustainability and Transformation Partnership, the Trust is also part of King’s Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre (AHSC), a pioneering collaboration between one of the world’s leading research-led universities and three of London’s NHS Foundation Trusts.  The Trust also has a strategic ambition to be a system leader and have been accredited by NHS Improvement as one of four NHS Foundation Trusts approved to work in partnership with other organisations to form a Group.

Reporting into the Chief Finance Officer, this is a newly created position to support the Trust in setting out the master plan for the next ten years and establishing the capital plan for the next five years in support of this.  Key responsibilities will include:

  • You will be required to provide specialist advice to the Director of Finance and other Executive and Board colleagues to confirm capital requirements of schemes and to identify funding sources to enable these schemes to be implemented.
  • Ensure business cases are developed which will enable the Trust to gain Department of Health, NHS England and NHS Improvement support to implement proposals.
  • You will be part of the negotiating team with potential development partners, funders and construction companies to translate plans into deliverable projects with appropriate legal documentation in place.

This role is critical to the Trusts longest term strategic goals. You will report directly into the CFO of Guy’s & St Thomas’ and so you will have the confidence and gravitas to manage senior stakeholder relationships.  You will be a professionally qualified accountant and will have significant experience of working on business cases and have examples of leading on significant capital development schemes in large complex businesses.  These development schemes could within the NHS, wider public or commercial sectors.

This role provides a unique opportunity to work on a redevelopment which will reshape parts of South East London to the wider benefit of its local population.
